Blazing fast, well constructed and no bloatware.
Eluktronics Pro-X P950HR Premium Max-Q VR Ready Gaming Laptop I'm so impressed with this unit! First, no bloat-ware, as promised. Second, how many computer makers are including the Windows disc and a driver disk with their units? I've brokered a lot of machines for clients and businesses over the years and in the last ten I can answer that there are fewer and fewer who include that in the package. Often as a local tech I had to rebuild messed up units from scratch, using generic windows discs and other computers to nab the downloads and transfer them. Eluktronics even sent a few extra screws for future upgrades, a blank SD Card insert to protect the port, and a cleaning cloth. They did what I would have done had I built this for someone else. This model is super slim, mine weights about 4.5 pounds, and the chassis is very well ventilated for cooling. Fans run so quietly I had to feel for the airflow, which was just fine. The lid lifts one-handed, smoothly and firmly seated in sturdy hinges, and the rubber feet not only lift the vents about an 8th of an inch off the table, but have enough hold to keep the unit from sliding off a solid countertop. I ordered mine with 16Gb RAM, and the 512 M.2 SSD drive. It boots so fast I thought it was staying in standby mode, but it was truly coming up from total shut down. Multi-tasks well. Touchpad is sensitive enough that though I prefer a wireless mouse I was able to use the touchpad for all the setup routine on first boot without any frustration. I had mine built with the Intel Wireless-AC 8265 2x2; I set up the laptop wirelessly on my home network and transferred 8.6GB of photos and videos from my older Windows 7 desktop PC over a b/g/n router (on the other side of the house) in less than 12 minutes. Wow. I can't testify to how games run on it because I had this built for photo/video editing. I just installed the software so will be using that soon, but I expect it will run very well encoding with this configuration (Nvidia 1070Q). I never have great expectations of laptop speakers and I was pleasantly surprised that I could hear the voices & sounds of my videos very clearly without the sound on high. Playing a music album is a bit tinny and not very loud out of the built-ins, but when I plugged in a cheap set of headphones just to try out- the music was lovely and in full depth of stereo sound- this will be nice travel benefit. One last thing I'd like to mention is the clarity and brightness of the IPS screen. I'd read a lot of reviews voicing other brands' disappointing screens in gaming laptops and was beginning to think it was the standard thing for IPS- not so. Crystal clear, no flicker, no light bleeds, and colors true to life! I got the 15.6” model, and the relatively thin bezel around the screen provides more real estate than a standard laptop of this size, judging from the shopping I've done. Ports on the sides are well-organized, very accessible, and I can't think of any others I might need- they seem to have covered everything and I especially appreciate that there is also an Ethernet port. Windows 10 won't let us schedule windows updates like the older versions did, but by marking the wireless connection as “metered” I can limit updates to whenever I plug into the Ethernet port (between 3AM-6AM, the Internet provider's free zone)- a simple way to keep my rural satellite bandwidth from going over the limit as it would with auto-updates 24/7. I couldn't be happier with the quality of the build. Thanks for making a superior product that is affordable. I feel like I've made a great tech investment that will last beyond the “next big thing”.
