MAX-17 w/ 2070
This is an excellent machine. It chomps through everyday productivity tasks with ease and looks good doing it. This is easily the best computer I've had for personal use in the last 10 years. The first thing you will notice is how good the keyboard is. The keys are huge and perfect for my fat fingers. The travel is minimal and smooth - exactly what you want in a laptop keyboard. The 10-key area is good to have as more and more companies are choosing to omit them. Typing on this thing is fast an enjoyable. I was initially worried about the placement of the webcam on the bottom bezel and while it forces you to sit farther away or to tilt the screen to properly use Windows Hello, I haven't had any real issues with it. I use a separate webcam for video conferencing and streaming. The track pad is one of the disappointing parts of this build. The pad is made 'diving board' style where you have to push the bottom of the pad to register a click. You can opt for just 'tapping' but when you do, the pad feels a little loose and a tap can cause it to wiggle a little an you get some weird tactile feedback. Not really a big deal as if you purchase the bundle which comes with a great starter mouse. Overall the build quality is good but the screen has a tendency to flop like a fish when my desk is bumped even in the slightest. Compared to my MacBook Pro which doesn't move at all, you can see the trade offs that have to be made when you build out of plastic and compromise on hinge design. What my MacBook CAN'T do, however, is play Triple A games at 140fps. This CPU is easily the best in the laptop market and the mobile 2070 is a powerhouse of graphics that just chugs out frames. Using NVENC, you can stream everything no prob. When you have this thing pegged in Turbo Mode and you're streaming and playing a fast paced FPS, the fans will really kick in. To the point that it sounds like this thing is about to lift off. Not really an issue though if you're using headphones (I reviewed the bundle as well). The thing gets pretty warm but I guess there's shielding or something under the left hand side of the keyboard because I feel zero heat unless I touch the frame just under the screen. Overall, it's an outstanding computer that delivers exceptional value. Compared to similar laptops with comparable specs, this is the best and smartest deal available today.
