Great laptop, bad luck!
In my continuing streak of recent bad luck with technology, I ended up getting a lemon MB-15 from Eluktronics. Besides some really odd failures that I was told weren't normal, and that I was the only one who had RMA'd under such conditions, the laptop was great. I'm not a fan of soft touch plastics, which this laptop's palmrest is EXCLUSIVELY made out of, but I dealt with it in the time I had the machine. If you like that stuff, I don't really understand you, but to each their own! I know a lot of people like it, but I'm a bit texture sensitive. Performance is great (granted that you get the $35 cooling upgrade) and the CPU and GPU run amazingly fast granted that you sue Throttlestop to fix the PL1 and PL2 drop when the GPU is enabled. Keep in mind this is a GK5CN6X chassis, and as a result many of the Mech-15 G2 or GK5CN#Z guides might not work on this machine. Battery upgrades? Yes! Keyboard stuff? No. This RGB keyboard is a four-zone one, not like the per-key on the Mech 15, so keep that in mind. It's also not mechanical. In regards to the support I got from Eluktronics, it was stellar. I was in contact with one of Eluk's great staff members, specifically Winston, and he helped me have an absolutely amazing experience to the best of his abilities. Unfortunately this laptop didn't end up working out for me, and I've moved on to something else mostly for the sake of experimentation. If you're looking for a solid, cheaper alternative to something like the X1 Extreme or an XPS 15 and don't mind sacrificing a bit of the premium finish that those laptops offer, this is a great choice! Hopefully you'll be luckier than me. If you weren't, for the love of all that's holy, please leave a review! I shouldn't be the lone voice on this kind of thing. :D
