Top notch support & one of the best laptops I've ever owned.
After spending what would be a good three or so months looking for the right laptop for me by scouring forums, subreddits, Youtube (Lookin' at you, BOB and OWNorDisown) and review sites for hours on end, I decided to get the Mech 15 G3 here w/ the 2080 Super option, Eluktroboost, no OS install, liquid metal cooling. Lemme tell you this upfront. If you're considering buying a laptop from Eluktronics, do it. Here's why. My pre-order went smoothly, it shipped quickly, and initial setup was a breeze. Access to the memory/m.2 slots was easy. I didn't have to go through a labyrinth of screws to install anything compared to other laptops I've owned or had to set up. Pricing & value is one of the top things I look for when it comes to shopping for laptops because honestly, you're paying a premium for portability and power. Compared to other options for 15.6in laptops on the market right now, the Mech is a sensible and smart choice due to the internals. The first thing you'll notice is that the laptop is LIGHT. Like, 'you'll probably misjudge just how much force you have to pick it up' kind of light. If you've used other barebones laptops/desktop replacements in the past, you'll know EXACTLY what I mean. Build quality is great. It's a durable chassis, even though the bottom is plastic which is a minor nitpick, but if you've got a decent laptop bag it's a non-issue. The mechanical keyboard, one of the biggest selling points of the laptop, feels fantastic. It's got a nice tactile feel, but it's a lot quieter than you'd expect. It's comfortable to type and game on for long periods of time. The touchpad is accurate and easy to turn off if you've got a mouse hooked up. There's no rattle, so that's a major plus compared to other brands. The 240hz matte display panel is awesome. Great color accuracy and the brightness is good for me. I know a bunch of folks are nitpicky about the nits, but I'm not one of them. The speakers are better than I expected! They don't sound tinny at all and they've got a good amount of power in them. I usually use a headset, so this doesn't have as much weight on review stuff for me. Battery life is great. I tend to stay tethered to the AC adapter when I game. Expect about an hour, maybe two if you're playing games off of it. Really depends on what you enjoy playing. Wi-Fi is fast and reliable. Don't have to deal with the Killer NIC software either. Ethernet speeds are great too. MUX switch is a gamechanger if you're just doing web browsing and other non-game stuff. If you lower your brightness a bit, this lasts for HOURS on battery. Performance is where the Mech 15 G3 shines. It's run everything I've thrown at it perfectly. Warzone, Battlefield, all sorts of stuff. Eluktroboost makes a world of difference. Thermals are great under load. Way cooler than other chassis I've used. Be sure to get the liquid metal option and don't worry about the lead time. It's worth it. The only nitpicks I have about the laptop is the Control Center software and USB port placement. There's an issue for some where it can't retrieve the calibration profile for your display. Aside from that, it's alright-ish. Does what it says on the tin. I got in touch with support about the calibration issue above. Considering we're in a pandemic at the moment and they've been working hard on getting laptops out the door for other customers, their response was quick, courteous, and they were extremely helpful with my issue. Compared to other companies' support experiences I've had over the years, they've gone above and beyond what I expected and I gotta give thanks to everyone who helped out. If you want a portable, durable, and above all else, POWERFUL gaming/all-purpose laptop with great support, this is what you're looking for. I know for a fact that when it's time to upgrade, I'll be looking to Eluktronics first. If you've read this far, you should just buy the f**king laptop already.
